The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie
I can’t quite remember when we first started baking with this recipe. If my memory serves me right, it originally came from a recipe book for a bakery that had sadly closed its doors. Over time, though, this recipe has evolved into something uniquely ours. We’ve adjusted the chocolate-to-dough ratio, experimented with freezing the dough, and fine-tuned it to fit our lifestyle perfectly.
Quick and Easy Treats
One of my favorite parts of baking these cookies is the comforting smell of freshly baked goods filling the house. Unlike cake, which takes longer to cool, cookies are quick to bake, cool, and enjoy—perfect for impatient little hands (and grown-ups, too!).
Always Prepared with Freezer-Friendly Dough
What makes these cookies even more special is their versatility. By freezing the dough ahead of time, I can always be prepared for unexpected guests or a sudden craving. Whether it’s a neighbor stopping by or one of my kids’ friends dropping in, I can have fresh, warm cookies ready in minutes. Paired with a cup of tea, they’re a simple yet delightful treat that brings people together.
Smart Snacking and Full Ingredient Control
Freezing the dough also helps us limit temptation. Instead of baking a big batch all at once, we can enjoy just a few cookies whenever we want. It’s a little way to indulge without overdoing it. Plus, making these cookies at home saves money compared to store-bought treats, and I have full control over the ingredients—something that matters to me as a mom.
Perfect as Gifts
Another thing I love about this recipe is how great these cookies are as gifts. Whether it’s baking a few extras to bring to meetings or delivering them to favorite teachers as a little treat, they’re always appreciated. A box of homemade cookies is such a thoughtful way to brighten someone’s day, and these cookies never fail to bring a smile!
A Family Tradition
These cookies have become a family tradition, and I hope they can bring as much joy to your home as they do to ours. Whether you bake them fresh, freeze them for later, or share them as gifts, they’re sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike!

kcalThese classic chocolate chip cookies are a family favorite—deliciously soft, chewy, and packed with rich chocolate chips. My kids absolutely love them, and the best part is how well they freeze! Simply scoop the dough into portions, freeze, and bake as many as you want whenever the craving strikes. Fresh, warm cookies are always just minutes away!
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
20 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Cream butter until light. Add both sugars and cream until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla, beating until the batter is no longer slick.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until just blended.
- Stir in chocolate chips. There will just be enough dough to hold the chips together.
- Use a melon baller to scoop the dough onto baking sheets. To freeze for later, place the scooped dough close together on the tray, freeze until solid, then transfer to a storage bag and keep in the freezer.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes (10-13 minutes if baking frozen dough balls) – or until the centers are no longer ‘wet’ but before the cookies brown.
Notes
- If baking frozen dough balls, add 1-2 minutes to the baking time.
